AKAI GX-F95 (1981) | Auto Computer Tuning

AKAI GX-F95 (1981) | Auto Computer Tuning

Using Akai's unique technologies such as Super-GX 3-head and Quartz Lock 2 Motor DD system (BLM-100) the GX-F95 was introduced as the top model in 1981. The Super-GX head of the GX-F95 is using a separate recording head (4 μ gap) and separate reproducing head (1 μ gap). For the capstan drive, a high-grade original brushless quartz-lock DD motor is used. Strong torque and excellent rotational accuracy are realized by a three phase full-wave drive system with Hall element position detection and FG servo + quartz-lock circuit with high accuracy and quick response.
In addition, in order to stabilize high rotational accuracy, it is equipped with a quartz lock, which is phase control by crystal oscillation, and it is combined with a direct drive mechanism to maintain high accuracy. The recording  amplifier uses a DC amplifier to minimize distortion during recording, and the playback amplifier uses a dual FET. The GX-F95 is also equipped with an auto-tuning computer that has been developed to extract 100% of the characteristics of various tapes and to record and reproduce them under optimum conditions. A microcomputer analyzes the characteristics of each tape and commands the deck for the optimum bias, equalizer and recording sensitivity. Further there is a electronic digital tape counter, illuminated buttons and 2-color 24-segment FL bar meter with peak hold. The peak hold time is approximately one second, and a VU / peak switching switch is installed. Two types of cassette lids are included. In addition to the aluminum type, there is also an acrylic type that allows the tape to be seen. The GX-F95 was available in both silver and black at an original sale price of 2.400 DM in Germany.

AKAI PA-W09 (1980) | Pulse Locked Power Suply

AKAI PA-W09 (1980) | Pulse Locked Power Suply

The PA-W09 Stereo Power Amplifier was a unique product in the Akai amplifier range from the early 80s. It was unique in a sense that there was no matching pre-amplifier made for this model. While the "04" and "06" models from this range were presented as pre-amplifier/power amplifier combo, the 09 was mostly shown as an individual component. It was only one Akai brochure from 1981 that suggested the PA-W09 to be used as an upgrade to the visually matching AM-U06 stereo integrated amplifier. The PA-W09 is a dual mono construction with pulse power supply and heat pipe cooling system. The original sale price was approx. 1.750 DM in Germany with the first units delivered starting October 1980.

ILET 110C (1985) | Stereo 4 All

ILET 110C (1985) | Stereo 4 All
ILET

The "Ilet-110-stereo" reel-to-reel recorder has been produced by the Volzhsky Electromechanical Plant since 1985. The model uses a three-motor solenoid logic controlled tape transport with electronic control and automatic tracking of tape tension and Glass Ferrite heads in a 3-head configuration. So far everything seems normal but there are a couple of unusual features for a model introduced in 1985. On a closer inspection one would notice that this model has also a built-in amplifier (2x15W) and would accept reels up to 22cm (a fairly unusual German DIN standard size). The built-in amplifier was actually a characteristic of Soviet made hi-fi components that allowed a radio or turntable to be connected using the 110C as an amplifier for those external sources. Another unusual thing is that as a consequence of the "centralized economical production" the same model was manufactured in various factories across the country with minor aesthetic differences as: Rostov 105 stereo, Soyuz 110 stereo, Snezhet 110 stereo. Apparently the "original" model was the Rostov 105 Stereo and this was exported with both Cyrillic and English front panel inscription. You can see such an export model Rostov 105 in the 1001 Hi-Fi collection here. Frequency response is 31-22.000Hz at 19cm/s with a wow and flutter figure of 0,09%. Size of the unit is 510x417x225mm with a weight of 24kg. Usually a pair of 3-way loudspeakers were offered as standard.

PIONEER PL-L7/PL-90 (1984) | Elite HiFi Reference

PIONEER PL-L7/PL-90 (1984) | Elite HiFi Reference

The PL-L7 is made for the purist. There are some good reasons why the PL-L7 makes this possible. One is a tonearm made from alumina ceramics, another is the Pioneer DRA (Dynamic Resonance Absorber), a combination of a viscous damper and weight, to eliminate resonance. To ensure that records are played with extremely low noise and wow and flutter, a coreless direct-drive DC-servo motor controlled by a precise quartz-PLL servo system to provide cog-free and ripple-free smooth torque generation is installed. With the cabinet and cabinet base separated internally by insulators and the entire unit suported by large insulators on the base itself, the player has an effective Double-Floating configuration. The PL-L7 was first introduced in 1984 in Japan while the North-American market model was the PL-90. This one had "shiny looks", marketed as "Reference Turntable" and it was presented in the Pioneer Elite series brochure.

Specifications

DUAL CV-1460 (1984) | Dual Class A

DUAL CV-1460 (1984) | Dual Class A

The CV 1460 integrated amplifier was the new top model in 1984. The device is built using "dual-class-A" technology. The front panel is dominated by two large instruments that signal the output power at 8 ohms separately for each channel. The two pointer instruments are illuminated, easy to read and quite accurate. Below them are the other control elements in a horizontal row. The balance control and the two tone controls for bass and treble have a locking position, the slightly larger volume control has a scale from 1-10. Dual Class A-Technik: For HiFi purists, the invention of the transistors have never been a full replacement for the delicate, crystal-clear sound of tube amplifiers. This is due to the circuitry of conventional transistor amplifiers (B-type), which allow for high output powers, but generates crossover distortions at the transition from positive to negative amplitude, which audibly change the sound. The tube amplifier (A-type) does not do this, but can only achieve low output powers. Dual Class A is a new electronic control circuit that ensures a seamless zero crossing without crossover distortion. The result is a velvety smooth, transparent sound in a fine pattern that was previously unknown for transistor amplifiers. And yet high output power is possible. With Dual Class A, the seamless transition of the amplitude from the positive to the negative range results in a velvety smooth, crystal clear sound.
