SONY LISSA (2000)

SONY LISSA (2000)

The SONY LISSA was a very unique hi-fi stereo system that was introduced in the year 2000. It was so unique that the concept was never further developed, remaining a one off concept. The LISSA was a set of Hi-Fi components that was based on the i.LINK interconnect standard, known as IEEE 1394 or FireWire, that was developed as a cooperation between Sony, Panasonic and Apple. Since the first Apple desktop computer was named Lisa (1983), Sony decided to use the name LISSA for this system even though their name adopted for this communication system was:...i.LINK. Basically the SONY LISSA system consists of the following components (all remote controlled): CDP-LSA1 CD player, MDS-LSA1 MiniDisc recorder, STR-LSA1 reciever and SDP-LSA10 DVD/SACD player that are connected with each other using nothing but this i.LINK/IEEE1395/Firewire digital audio-data connector. It was only the STR-LSA1 50W/ch receiver that had an aditonal stereo analog input. As matching loudspeakers the SS-LA500ED were one of the standard acesoires. Standard dimension of a unit: 430x315x70mm (WxHxD).

YAMAHA GT-CD1 (1991) | Gigantic & Tremendous

YAMAHA GT-CD1 (1991) | Gigantic & Tremendous

The GT-CD1 featured accurate reproduction of micro-level signals and the realization of the high rigidity, non-resonant structure to support it. For ten years after the birth of the CD, Yamaha relentlessly pursued this theme before finally arriving at its ultimate answer, the GT Concept (Gigantic & Tremendous) in the GT-2000 analog player, which realized the idea of using the power of gravity to completely neutralize all vibration. The CD mechanism was made secure by mounting it on a 60mm-thick wooden player base housed in a 3kg circular casing carved from gunmetal casting, penetrating and grounded directly to the electronics unit suspended beneath the player base. The CD mechanism did not feature a clamping system, the 160g weight of the brass stabilizer pressing the disc directly to the spindle, covered further with a 10mm glass lid. Completely eliminating the floating mechanism that had become common in the primitive basic structure of the CD Players up to then, it had a profound impact on the audio world of the time. The DAC converter unit featured Yamaha-developed next generation independent left and right I-PDM system 1-bit DACs. While the transport unit and processor unit were completely separated, the integrated separate structure connected them over the shortest distance possible, and its ingenious external design that beautifully expressed what was inside made it a worthy component to play the lead role in the history of Yamaha CD Players.* Size (WxHxD): 435x160(310 lid open)x400 | Weight: 24kg | Original sale price: 7000 DM in Germany

SONY SS-1ED (1999) | Extended Definition

SONY SS-1ED (1999) | Extended Definition

The Sony SS-1ED is a 4-way 5-unit speaker system with excellent resolution and detail reproduction, as well as a wide dynamic range and frequency band. The newly developed 100kHz super tweeter unit can faithfully reproduce even ultra-high frequency components beyond the audible range. The lightweight, high-rigidity carbon-graphite composite hard dome diaphragm and the electromagnetic induction type unit that reduces inductance (induction coefficient) and moving mass (moving part mass) enable reproduction up to 100kHz. The midrange and woofer units are made of polypropylene, a material with excellent rigidity and internal loss, and a polymer composite tweeter is used to achieve high resolution and low distortion. In order to minimize loss of music information through the network, various high quality parts such as large air-core coils made of Litz wire and polypropylene film capacitors are used. Designed by Dan Anagnos of Polk Audio it was available in the USA as SS-M9ED.
