PIONEER CarryCom system (1983) - A New Concept in Compact Stereo.

boombox

Pioneer's CarryCom System was a new concept in compact stereo components. It packs like a portable, but unpacks into individual components - speakers systems, versatile stereo FM/AM tuner/amp combo and fully-equipped stereo cassette deck. Together they add up to integrated component system, just like home hi-fi's. When sold as complete system the following combinations were available: CK-3, CK-W3, CK-5, CK-7T and CK-R11. Your options however are not limited to these "ready made" combinations as the CarryCom System is a modular system and the components are designed so you can choose exactly the right combination of units that best matches your needs - and your budget. These are the components that you could choose from:

TUNER-AMP: FA-C3 tuner-amp with analog AM/FM Stereo | FA-C5 tuner-amp with analog AM/FM Stereo, 5-band Graphic Equalizer | FA-C7T tuner-amp with Quartz-PLL Synthesizer preset SW/MW/FM Stereo tuner, 5-band Graphic Equalizer. All models feature the same power output: continuous average power 12.5 W/ch, min. at 6 ohm from 60-20.000Hz with no more than 5% total harmonic distortion and the same size, 225x110x150 mm. There was an additional Power Amplifier as well with continuous power output of 30 watts per channel, min. at 6 ohms from 40 to 20.000Hz with no more than 5% total harmonic distortion. Size: 225x110x192 mm, weight: 5kg.

PIONEER EXCLUSIVE model 2401 (1983) - Studio Monitor Speaker System

loudspeaker

The Pioneer Exclusive model 2401 was introduced in 1983. This state-of-the-art loudspeaker was available for the mass market branded as Pioneer while for the professional audio sector it was available as TAD TSM-1. Since day one (1975), TAD Labs has been building only the highest quality, technologically leading loudspeaker chassis. Used in countless recording studios worldwide, the name TAD Labs has become an integral part of the professional scene. TAD's philosophy has remained the same to this day: Technological superiority paired with uncompromising authenticity. Introduced in 1983, the state-of-the-art TAD Labs TSM-1 studio monitor quickly gained an excellent reputation. The clear, precise sound, which reflects the energy and passion of live music like hardly any other loudspeaker, gives these TAD Labs models a near monopoly in the eighties. Even by today's standards these legendary transducers are a coveted collector's item.

The TSM-1 (Exclusive model 2401) is a scientifically-designed monitor speaker system combining five TAD speaker components - two TL-1601a low-frequency loudspeakers, one TD-4001 high-frequency driver, one TH-4001 stabilized dispersion horn, and the TN-1 dividing network. It was designed for use in large studio control rooms. It provides both high power at all frequencies and superior transient response - a rare combination. Thanks to the use of two parallel-driven low-frequency loudspeakers, the maximum sound pressure level is a particularly high 126dB/W at 1m. Its dispersion pattern is critically controlled, based on tests of actual studio acoustics: response is smooth over a wide listening area, and consistently clear directivity can be enjoyed. Specifications: Impedance 4 ohm (when built-in network is employed) | Frequency range 29-20.000Hz | Input level 300 watts (rated) 600 watts (maximum) | Sound pressure level 98dB/W (1m) | Maximum sound pressure level 126db/W (1m) | Crossover frequency 650Hz | Dimensions 1100x900x712 mm | Weight 145 kg.

PIONEER M-22 (1978) - Series Twenty Class-A

stereo power amplifier

The culmination of PIONEER's creative design can be heard with the esoteric Series Twenty Class-A components which achieve the exceptional warmth and presence of valve-type amplifiers without the drawbacks of the old designs. The Series Twenty was launched in 1978 to prove just how "high" fidelity could really reach if the cost factor is eliminated. The PIONEER M-22 is operating strictly in the Class-A mode. Admittedly low on efficiency (watts of output per power input) but unbeatably high on performance. The M-22 obtained the highes compliment when the British journal Practical Hi-Fi said the amplifier "can be regarded as the classic straight wire with gain" Technical data: 30 W/ch min. RMS at 8 ohms, from 10 to 30000 Hz Dimensions (WxHxD) 420x153x370 mm, Weight: 22 kg. Partnering components are the U-24 Stereo Programme Source Selector, C-21 Stereo Preamplifier, D-23 Multi-Amp Electronic Crossover Network.

PIONEER CT-A9 (1983) - Reference Master (...for Digital)

cassette deck

The Pioneer CT-A9 was introduced in september 1983 and it's production continued up to 1986 with the "D" version. With this deck Pioneer introduced it's own designed mechanism, the Z Mechanism (quickly renamed as "Reference Master Mechanism"). This is a staggered-resonance closed-loop dual-capstan drive for uniform tape tension and smooth tape running that eliminates dropouts, modulation noise and level variations. The capstan motor is a Qurtz-PLL servo direct-drive DC motor that can achieve an ultra-low wow and flutter of 0.018% (WRMS). The Ribbon Sendust recording and playback heads are mounted on a pressure-diecast zinc support of extremely low tolerance. The mechanism is controlled by a 4-bit micro-computer. For optimum results with any tape the CT-A9 features Pioneer's own auto-tape calibration system, the AUTO-BLE. With a large 35 segment FL display the Pioneer CT-A9 was available in both silver and black versions. The black version usually was presented with vinyl-covered side panels in simulated rosewood grain.

PIONEER SX-1980 (1978) - The Monster Receiver

Monster Receiver

PIONEER presents the greatest DC power story ever told. It's a simple fact of life that the more pure pure power a receiver possesses, the easier it can reproduce music without straining. And at 270 watts per channel, even the most demanding piece of music will hardly cause the SX1980 to flex its considerable muscle. Each channel, for example, ha a separate DC power configuration that helps to provide richer and more accurate bass. Pioneer has developped a 22 pound toroidal core transformer that's far less susceptible to minor voltage variations. So you get cleaner, clearer sound. Instead of pushing power transistors to their limits Pioneer invented new transistors that last longer and eliminate the need for fans that can cause electrical interference. All these inovations give the SX1980 a total harmonic distorsion level of less than 0.03% from 20 to 20,000 hertz. Inside the SX1980 there's a quartz crystal generating the perfect frequencies of every FM station, so as you rotate the tuning dial, a special integrated circuit compares the station you're trying to tune to it's perfect frequency. When the station is tuned exactly right (all this takes about half a second), a "fine tuned" light comes on; the receiver then senses when you let go of the tuning dial and automatically "locks" onto that broadcast. Technical data: 270 W/ch (min. RMS, 8 ohm 20-20,000 Hz, no more than 0.03% THD) Dimensions: 560 W x 211 H x 497 D mm Weight 35.4 kg.

PIONEER CT-F1250 (1979) - Fluroscan Master Recorder

cassette deck

When PIONEER designed the new (1979) CT-F1250, they not only raised the performance standards of high quality decks, they also lowered the standard price. Instead ot the two heads found in most metal cabale tape decks (in 1979), the CT-F1250 has three. They are not simply modified for this advancement, the CT-F1250 has been specially designed for Metal tapes. The new "small window" erase head makes a big difference in making sure all metal tapes are wiped completely clean. The Uni-Crystal Ferrite recording and playback heads give a greater frequency response and better wear-resistance than the ordinary ferrite and Sendust alloy heads you'll find on most other tape decks. Instead of the single capstan transport, the CT-F1250 has a closed-loop dual capstan, similar to that found in the remarkable RT-909 open-reel deck. This system keeps the tape in perfect contact with the heads at all times. So you are assured of getting everything that's on the tape. Nothing more, nothing less. What's more, the CT-F1250 ha sa Quartz Locked Direct Drive capstan motor that senses the slightest deviation in speed and automatically corrects it to keep wow and flutter down to an unbelievable 0.03%.

It's engineering innovations like these that make the CT-F1250 so remarkable. But equally remarkable are the features that make the CT-F1250 so remarkable. Like the specially engineered Tape Calibration System that lets you quickly set bias level, Dolby adjustment, and record equalization for the best possible signal-to-noise ratio, the lowest distortion, and the best high frequency response. The 24 segment Fluroscan meter that works on PIONEER's own microprocessor to give a more accurate reading of what you're listening to. It even has Peak, Peak Hold, and Average Buttons that let you record without fear of overload. In addition the PIONEER CT-F1250 has a digital brain with a memory that controls four differnt memory functions. Plus pitch control. Mic/line mixing. Independent left/right input/output controls. And more.

PIONEER CT-A1 (1979) - Spectacular Big Black Recorder

cassette deck

Introduced in 1979 the PIONEER CT-A1 is one of the top recorders of all time featuring a Quartz Lock Direct Drive Closed Loop Dual Capstan mechanism, 3 Head System and Automatic Bias Level Equlizer Tuning System. The CT-A1 can get the best out of every tape, because it has a microcomputer that works like a lab technician, testing each tape and making precise recording adjustments. The AUTO - B.L.E. system automatically determines optimum bias/level/EQ, and stores this data for 9 different types of tape in its memory. Like a technician, AUTO - B.L.E. applies a test tone to the tape, then varies the bias current over 64 possible steps. It then scans the tape in playback to determine optimum bias with an accuracy of +/-0.2dB. It sets optimum level and EQ the same way. You get the most out of Metal, Normal, CrO2 and Fe-Cr tapes. And it takes less than 45 seconds.

To avoid pitch variations the CT-A1 uses a dual capstan mechanism. The "drive" capstan's speed is regulated by a quartz-phase lock loop system that detects any speed variations, and instantly corrects them. Speed drift is less than 0.02% and wow & flutter drops to an amazingly low 0.03% WRMS. The CT-A1 out-performs all other cassette decks, and rivals the best reel-to-reel. Signal to Noise with Dolby on is -70dB. Double Dolby allows you to record with Dolby, while monitoring it with Dolby. The 3-head system with Uni-Crystal Ferrite heads achieves a frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz, -20dB with metal tape. The fluorescent meter gives you 24-segment resolution for easy readings from -30dB to +8dB. Since PIONEER briefly acquired the Phase Linear company this model was available for a short time also as Phase Linear Model 7000 Series Two however these were silver models while the PIONEER models were all black.
