Stereo Integrated Amplifier

Brand: DENON
Model: PMA-780D
Year: 1987

The PMA-780D was a completely new type of integrated amplifier equipped with a digital multi-interface circuit and a D/A converter circuit that directly receives music information sent from CDs, DAT, DBS (PCM satellite broadcasting), etc. as digital signal. This unit is equipped with 3 digital input circuits and automatically selects the sampling frequency of CD, DAT, and DBS. Furthermore, it is equipped with a double super linear converter circuit that uses a high-precision digital filter and independent D/A converters for left and right channels, converting it into a pure audio signal and directly driving the power amplifier. The amplifier section is equipped with a super non-feedback power amplifier that boasts high speed, and a pure dynamic power circuit that uses a powerful power transformer, dramatically improving instantaneous power supply capability and delivering unwavering high dynamic power of 350W + 350W/2Ω. Furthermore, it is equipped with a wealth of functions such as a phono equalizer amplifier, a processor loop, and three recording/playback terminals.

DUAL C 839 RC (1979) - Auto Reverse Cassette Deck

Auto Reverse Cassette Deck

Brand: DUAL
Model: C 839 RC
Year: 1979

The C 839 RC was the Top model in the 1979 Dual cassette deck range (above the C 830 3-head model). It was not however Duals' first Auto Reverse model. The very first Dual cassette deck was the C 901 from 1973 and it was an Auto Reverse model, see details here. The Dual C 839 RC is a New generation Auto-Reverse model. In recording and playback, the tape reverses automatically and it stops at the end of the second side. (Reversing can also continue indefinitely if desired). You will notice that there is no door between you and the cassette compartment. This is called DLL - Direct Load & Lock. Here's another innovation in playback. If a tape made on another deck is too sharp or too flat, or if you need to match pitch to a live instrument, no problem. Playback pitch can be varied over an eight percent range. If you have a previously recorded tape where a song ends abruptly you can use the fade/edit control to smooth this out. The incorporated peak-level LED indicators react faster than any other metering system. Further more the C 839 RC from Dual is full Metal tape compatible, features 6-way bias/equalization, computer logic solenoid-activated controls, switchable multiplex filter, line and mic mixing, two-way memory stop with automatic replay, headphone level controls and operation by external timer and optional wireless remote control.

SONY SS-GR1 (1991)

SONY SS-GR1 loudspeaker

Brand: SONY
Model: SS-GR1
Year: 1991

Just like the distortion figure and signal-to-noise ratio cannot tell everything about an amplifier, it is no exaggeration to say that when it comes to speakers, there is no "measurement" to begin with. However, it is also true that speakers that produce good sound are based on solid know-how. The SS-GR1 is a speaker system that focuses on implementing the know-how that has been continuously cultivated by Sony. It was sought an overall structure that would not make even the weakest sounds generated from the enclosure harmful. That is the RC (Resonance Control) frame. A large, sturdy wooden frame is installed in the inside of the enclosure, and this serves as the framework of the enclosure where the front and back baffles are connected. A super oval enclosure that prevents directivity disturbance and achieves a natural sound localization feeling was adopted using a technology that is also used in the molding of the side plate of a grand piano. The three CD horns (Constant Directivity) are machined from the front baffle.

DENON CONCEPT D-7 (1989)

DENON CONCEPT D-7 midi hifi system

The D-7 was the biggest model of the Concept Series from Denon and it was introduced in 1989. The system consists of a dual auto-reverse cassette deck with manual recording level adjustment and fluorescent display, stereo amplifier with optical Digital input, stereo tuner, 7-band graphic equalizer with spectrum analyzer and 2x6 memory system, compact disc player and another mysterious box. This large component looks like a power amplifier but is actually a - and I'm quoting: "Active Drived Woofer System - Its sound is so natural and dynamic". So this is a twin woofer box the size of a larger midi component. The components cannot be used individually as each component uses a dedicated and unique power/signal cable to be connected to the amplifier. The matching loudspeaker system is a 3-way - and I'm using another quotation of the text written on the front: "Active air suspension and Bassreflex speaker system". As expected, the whole system can be remote controlled with a dedicated infrared hand-held remote controller.

SANYO SX-Z3000 loudspeaker

Brand: Sanyo (Fisher)
Model: SX-Z3000 (STE-555)
Year: 1990

The main feature of the SX-Z3000 from Sanyo is the Twin-Drive woofer system. This is a completely new type of speaker using a completely new method that uses two drive units installed in front and behind of the the flat diaphragm to drive-it in a push-pull manner. When one drive unit pushes out the diaphragm, the other one pulls it in, and vice versa. This new woofer design uses drive energy more efficiently equalizes uneven magnetic flux density, equalizes the damper's diaphragm control force, and eliminates rolling phenomena, resulting in significantly improved linearity. This method makes possible to achieve lower distortion and less heat generated. For maximum rigidity all the elements are mounted in a aluminum die-cast frame. The cabinet is made of high-density particle board with rounded edges for less diffraction. As a result of Fisher being owned by Sanyo another version was sold as Fisher STE-555.
