PIONEER CX-7000 (1977) - The Super Component

hifi system

The CX-7000 cassette-receiver offers most of the truly great features found on individual Pioneer stereo components but with increased operational convenience. Integrated amplifier. FM/AM Tuner. Front loading cassette player. The power is a super substantial 25 watts per channel, min. at 8 ohms from 20 to 20,000 Hz with no more than 0.3% distortion total harmonic. Pioneer has a super-sensitive (11.2 dBf/2.0µV) and super selective tuner section (60dB). An automatic pilot signal canceller is included to prevent sound deterioration in the high frequency range and of course the PLL MPX circuits. Cassette handling is really a “super snap” thanks to the front-loading tape mechanism with built-in automatic stop. Built-in Dolby reduces tape hiss and noise in the high frequency range.

PIONEER A-200 (1983) - Real Dynamism Amplifier

Real Dynamism Amplifier

Brand: PIONEER
Model: A-200
Year: 1983

The A-200 (A-90) is a DC-servo Dynamic Power Non-Switching amplifier. Dynamic Power Supply provides low power supply voltage to the output transistors during soft passages for higher efficiency and reduced power loss. But when the sound becomes louder, the high voltage power supply comes into action to provide sufficiently high drive voltage to the output transistors, thus preventing clipping. The Dynamic Power Supply is twice as efficient as conventional class-B amplifiers. This is why the A-200 can deliver a remarkable 200 watts per channel without strain, and without requiring a heavy duty heat sink or a huge power supply.

Continuous power: 2X200W (8ohm, 10Hz to 20kHz, both channel driven)
Total Harmonic Distortion: <0.002%
Frequency Response: 5Hz-65KHz (IHF, both channel driven, THD 0.01%)
Dimensions (WxHxD): 420x150x420 mm
Weight: 19 kg

PHILIPS DSS930 (1993) - Digital Speaker System

Digital Speaker System

Brand: PHILIPS
Model: DSS930
Year: 1993

Philips has been known as a pioneer of active loudspeakers since the early 70s with their MFB model range. The DSS930 takes the active loudspeaker concept a step further...into the Digital age. This is a 2-way 3-speaker system with built-in bi-amplifier and four built-in DAC converters for the woofer and tweeter. They will only accept as input signal Digital sources via Digital input. While they can be operated directly, with a dedicated remote controller, from a Digital source such as CD player, DCC or Laserdisc it is best to be used with the matching DSC950 system controller. This will accept both analog and digital sources but it will transmit the signal to the loudspeakers in digital form. The system is using a chain connection method meaning that you will connect the controller to one loudspeaker and then the signal goes further from this speaker to the next. This way you can build a multiroom system with up to 6 pair of speakers. Each loudspeaker has a set of switches at the back to select their operation mode, Left or Right channel and Room A, B or C.

ReVox BX350 (1978) - Linear Phase Loudspeaker

Linear Phase Loudspeaker

Brand: ReVox
Model: BX350
Year: 1978

Linear phase system. The unique shape of the new ReVox loudspeaker plays an important functional role. The staggered loudspeaker arrangement compensates for the different response times of the various drivers and restores the original phase position within listening distance. This will give excellent impulse reproduction and therefore clean transient response and increased transparency in the width and depth of the sound image. To improve bass reproduction, ReVox came up with something unconventional: four small bass drivers instead of one large one. For bass and mid-range there are four long-throw woofers, each of which has a diameter of just 122 mm. The advantage of this solution: lower distortions, because the individual membranes only have to make comparatively small deflections. Because of the low moving mass of the individual chassis, even medium frequencies can be radiated cleanly. With this concept, ReVox was able to do without a separate midrange driver and design the BX350 as a two-way speaker. The four low-midrange drivers cover the entire frequency range up to 3200 Hertz. This is where the dome tweeter comes in. Revox engineers therefore installed the four woofers on a slightly concave baffle: Each of the four systems radiates in a different direction, which is intended to significantly improve the omnidirectional radiation behavior in the mid range. In order to avoid phase shifts, the four cone speakers and the tweeter are mounted so that the front edges of all voice coils are in one plane.

AKAI PS-200 (1979) - Stereo Pre-Power Amplifier

Stereo Pre-Power Amplifier

Brand: AKAI
Model: PS-200C | PS-200M
Year: 1979

The PS-200C preamplifier is characterized by the following properties: The entire signal path is designed using DC differential amplifier technology. The same applies to the phono amplifier, which makes it possible to connect a moving coil pickup system (3-phono inputs). For optimal adaptation to all commercially available pickups, the input impedance of the phono amplifier can be switched between 33, 47 and 100 kOhm. Together with the existing ground terminals, this results in an excellent performance with hum-free phono reproduction. The 250 W/channel professional PS-200M power amplifier, like the PS-200C preamplifier, is designed using DC differential technology. Twin power transformers supply power for this dual mono construction model. Two large power (watt/dB) indicators together with a 9-step peak-power LED display provides information about the power output. There are also electrical protection circuits for overloads, speaker defects or cable short circuits to protect the expensive output transistors. A subsonic filter prevents low-frequency interference caused by record treble or rumble.

SANYO VZ-CS50 (1989) - S-VHS Hi-Fi Stereo

S-VHS Hi-Fi Stereo

Brand: SANYO
Model: VZ-CS50
Year: 1989

In order to unleash the full potential of S-VHS, it is necessary to develop technology specifically for S-VHS, rather than taking-it as an extension of conventional VHS technology. Based on this idea, Sanyo focused on the chassis structure, which affects image and sound quality. A mid-mount system has been adopted. By locating the core mechanism in the center of the body, the influence of external vibrations is minimized, and at the same time, vibrations generated by the mechanism itself are distributed almost equally to the insulators at each corner and absorbed. By fundamentally improving the system design, was possible to achieve a high level of stability in tape running, which determines image and sound quality at the most fundamental level. Also Brass impedance rollers are installed on both the inlet and outlet sides of the cylinder, which are particularly effective in reducing screen distortion and color shift caused by unstable tape running. The large diameter impedance roller of 18mm on the inlet side reduces the low-frequency jitter component that mainly appears as large vertical line undulations, while the small diameter impedance roller of 10mm on the exit side reduces the small flickering undulations around 1kHz. The adopted S-VHS system offers high image quality aided by Digital noise reduction, digital tracking. For an audio dynamic range of 90 dB the Stereo Hi-Fi system was adopted. There is even more, the VZ-CS50 also features built-in satellite receiver, jog-shuttle control, "picture creative" color and sharpness control, title generator, flying erase head, insert dubbing, digital multiscreen. Stereo audio is also transmitted from the VZ-CS50 to the remote control where you can connect your headphones.

KENWOOD KA-3300D (1987)

Kenwood stereo integrated amplifier

Brand: KENWOOD
Model: KA-3300D
Year: 1987

The KA-3300D Digital Integrated Amplifier was introduced by Kenwood in 1987. As response to the growing popularity of CD, the KA-3300D features a built-in D/A converter that will accept Digital signal from a CD player via a optical or coaxial cable. The D/A converter section consists of a 4x oversampling digital filter, left and right independent ladder network type D/A converters, and a 7th-order Butterworth FDNR type discrete low-pass filter. Additionally, in order to support digital sources that use different sampling frequencies, it has a built-in PLL data demodulator that automatically switches the clock (synchronization) frequency between 32kHz, 44.1kHz, and 48kHz. The amplifier section uses a Dynamic Linear Drive (DLD) circuit. This circuit employs two amplifiers, a low-power amplifier and a high-power amplifier. This allows a far better control of loudspeaker load fluctuations. The amplifier also features a New VIG (Voltage Interface Gate) circuit that interfaces the amplifier section and the power supply section. In addition, by keeping the voltage between the base and emitter of the power transistor constant, the VIG circuit suppresses the phenomenon in which fluctuation components generated by the power stage of the amplifier affect the pre-driver stage and driver stage. This allows for smoother signal transfer between the driver stage and the driver stage, enabling purer signal amplification.
