Radio N. Mende GmbH (the original company) was founded in 1923 by Otto Hermann Mende in Dresden. After the factory being destroyed during WWII, Martin Mende created a new company in Bremen named Norddeutsche Mende-Rundfunk GmbH. The name was changed to Nordmende and during the 1950s and 1960s became an important manufacturer of radios, televisions tape recorders and record players. In 1977 a majority shareholding was sold to the French Thomson Brandt company. As a consequence a series of new products were launched but this time they were Made in Japan such as the Nordmende RE 1200 presented here. This receiver features two Darlington STK-0049 power modules while most connectors are DIN standard plugs but there is also a possibility to upgrade via pre-out/main-in sockets.
