The Aurex PC-X46AD cassette deck from 1981 is a high-performance vintage tape deck featuring a then newly developed dual-motor transport mechanism and Aurex’s proprietary ADRES noise reduction system. Designed to dramatically reduce cassette tape hiss while expanding dynamic range, ADRES technology delivers cleaner highs, lower distortion, and improved overall sound quality without bleeding noise. The PC-X46AD also supports playback of ADRES-encoded recordings, with a convenient CAL adjustment system and level marker memory that allows precise calibration and easy recall of optimized recording levels. Built around a 2-motor IC logic transport, the PC-X46AD separates capstan drive and reel drive motors for improved torque stability and reduced wow and flutter. For superior audio performance, the deck is equipped with a Super AP (High-B Hard Permalloy) record/playback head featuring high magnetic flux density and wide saturation capability. Its hyperbolic contact surface ensures optimal tape-to-head contact, reducing distortion and level fluctuations. A dedicated 2-gap AF (Arex-ferrite) erase head provides efficient and clean erasure. Additional features include Dolby Noise Reduction, illuminated one-touch IC logic controls, pause/mute function, auto-repeat playback mode, timer standby capability for unattended recording and alarm playback (with optional external timer), backlit peak level meters ranging from -40 dB to +10 dB, adjustable output level control, and a DC-configured recording/reamp section optimized for high-fidelity sound reproduction. An integrated MPX filter activates in FM mode to improve recording quality from FM Stereo tuner sources. The PC-X46AD is also compatible with an optional remote control, making it a versatile and user-friendly addition to any vintage hi-fi system. On top of the PC-X46AD we can also see the AD-4MKII additional adres noise reduction unit.
