Released by Yamaha in 1987 the NS-1200classics features a 30cm diameter cone type woofer, a pulp cone rather than the new materials such as cross carbon that were mainstream at the time. In keeping with Yamaha's style, spruce wood was used as the raw material. Spruce is often used for piano soundboards, and is said to have a beautiful sound. Yamaha chose spruce from among the various trees in the world, and after much effort, completed an original 100% spruce pulp cone for the company's famous NS-690III in 1980. The woofer of the NS-1200classics inherited that technology. The magnetic circuit that drives the woofer uses an alnico magnet. The squawker was equipped with an 8 cm soft dome type unit. This soft dome unit was made of cotton as the base material, impregnated with phenolic resin, and thermoformed, achieving beautiful mid-range reproduction with excellent reproduction of acoustic instruments. The squawker's magnetic circuit used an internal magnet type with an alnico magnet, just like the woofer. The tweeter was equipped with a 3cm soft dome type unit. It was made of the same material as the squawker. In addition, the magnetic circuit was also an internal magnet type with an alnico magnet, like the woofer and squawker. The cabinet was a sealed type, heavy and sturdy, with a total weight reaching 42kg. All five sides except the back were finished with natural American walnut boards, with a mirror finish with urethane gloss paint, giving it a beautiful and calm appearance design. In addition, a dedicated speaker stand SPS-1200 was available separately.
