DENON PMA-960 (1983) | Pure Dynamic

Incredible dynamic characteristics and PURE DYNAMIC music quality, that's what characterizes the PMA-960 stereo amplifier from Denon, introduced in 1983. A "Pure Dynamic" high power amplifier with non-feedback circuit that improves the perfection of straight amplification. In order to improve the perfection of the non-feedback system, which is an ideal transmission and amplification system with no signal return, this unit is equipped with a "dual super non-feedback circuit" that is the culmination of the non-feedback amplifier technology that Denon has built up, and has achieved pure dynamic amplification. The power of this non-feedback system achieves extremely excellent dynamic characteristics, for example, TIM distortion is below the measurable limit, unlike the NFB system that returns the signal from the output side to the input side. Furthermore, by thoroughly improving the speed of the flat amplifier, which is essential for CD playback, Denon has achieved an impressive slew rate of +350V/µsec between the DAD, AUX, etc. input terminals and the speaker output terminals. For example, when playing a CD source with a dynamic range of 90 dB at an average output of 1 W, assuming a peak factor of 20 dB, the instantaneous peak level will produce an output of over 100 W. To faithfully reproduce such steep, rich musical energy even in the deep bass range, not only high power in the specs but also a truly stable power supply and a well-equipped power stage are required. This unit uses Pc 130 W high-speed, large-capacity power transistors connected in parallel, while a large 390 VA toroidal transformer and four newly developed audio-grade large block capacitors (12,000 µF x 4) for the L and R channels are placed near the output stage to prevent mutual interference, and fast recovery diodes with high-speed rectification, etc., to form an extremely luxurious high-capacity, high-speed power supply section, which achieves a high power of 170 W + 170 W (6ohm), while providing ample "dynamic" power with plenty of room.
