Introducing CD recording capability for the home...in 1994... Now you can make your own CDs that provide all the advantages of conventional CDs. From its sleek golden front panel to its wireless remote control, the DR-W1 looks for all the world like a premium CD player. It is that... and much more. Because the DR-W1 is one of the world's first consumer CD players that also records CDs. And unlike similar systems, the DR-W1 can make completed CDs that are playable on other CD players. They're 100% compatible, 100% CD sound quality.
Accepts Digital and Analog Inputs
Use the DR-W1 to compile your favorite music onto CD from your entire music library, analog or digital. It's the ideal solution for archiving and for convenient playback in portable or car CD players. Of course, live "direct to disc" recording is also possible via an outboard microphone amp or mixing console. You can connect digital sources to one coaxial and two optical input terminals. Conventional stereo jacks are also provided for input from your amp, receiver, or other analog source. Simply select your desired input on the front panel. Adjustment to the sampling frequency of incoming digital signals is completely automatic.
Recording is Easy
If recording from an analog source, you press the record button once and then adjust recording level and
balance as necessary. Pressing the record button again begins actual recording. Recording from digital sources is even easier, since no adjustments are required. Recording begins once the source starts playing. Track number data for PMA and TOC creation already exists in CD and DAT material. For other source material, you can enter numbers manually or let the DR-W1 insert them automatically when it detects periods of silence in the program material.
Usable As a Stand-Alone D/A and A/D Converter
With the "Source Monitor" function you can use the DR-W1 as a stand-alone A/D and D/A converter. This is particularly useful for monitoring the sound of analog inputs during recording level adjustment. It lets you hear the actual results of both A/D and D/A conversion before recording begins. Digital output is provided via one optical and one coaxial terminal. The DR-W1 uses a 1-bit Delta-Sigma type ADC with 64-times oversampling and 4th order noise shaping. Its DAC is a 1-bit Delta-Sigma type with 128-times oversampling and 5th order noise shaping. These are highly linear devices to assure clean, accurate sound quality.
