The Lo-D D-980DD (Hitachi D-980 on the international market) is featuring the same Direct Drive Unitorque transport system as the D-5500A, while the D-980DD provided high quality sound reproduction at a very modest price. This is a three-head (titanium coated) cassette deck, with an optional wired remote control, offering such facilities as auto-rewind, memory, Dolby calibration, external fine bias, record mute and LED tape state indicator. A newly developed "feather touch" logic system ensures smooth and trouble-free transport operation, large illuminated VU meters and peak LED indicators enable distortion-free recordings. Soon after it's introduction it was replaced by the Metal tape capable D-980M.
