The Extended Definition Beta (ED-Beta) is the undisputed champion for recording the highest picture detail and purest color (for standard - 550 lines - broadcast signal). The EDV-9000 is the top of the line model of this series. ED-Beta is the kind of definition that gets second looks from everybody. The Sony ED-Beta VCR format (E for extended, D for definition) produces a picture of incredible clarity. A picture that could only result by shifting from 5.6 MHz to an astounding 9.3 MHz in the luminance carrier signal. A signal-to-noise ratio improved by 3 Db over SuperBeta, and an eye-opening 500 lines of horizontal resolution. Making it a picture unsurpassed (by 1987 standards) for home off-air recording. Vivid, lifelike and highly detailed. The Beta Hi-Fi sound offers a dynamic range of more than 90 db and a frequency response of 20 to 20,000 KHz. ED-Beta also uses metal particle tape for extremely high-density recording. Editing features like pre-roll editing accurate to within +/-3 frames and an 8-segment programmable assemble edit with random sequence capability are also included.
